In the market for a 36 with trips

I'm in the market for a 36 Concept with trips (250-300s). Anybody know of any aside from the ones listed on the big sites (boattrader, here, etc)? Also considering similar boats like the 32 Renegade and the 33 and 36 Avanti.

I don't but can tell you the one that was at Legendary Marine is a complete bust (the one with black/silver graphic). Owner/seller is a absolute moron who cannot be very interested in selling... I spent a month dealing with the idiot and the broker and we could not get the seller to do what was needed to move the boat (had large deposit and was ready to go on my end). I would avoid that one/seller because there has to be something more going on... Caveat Emptor

Ultimately I also want to find a 36 with t-top and twin 300's or possibly trips but need to drive one with trips to see how they do with proposing (a known issue with a rear biased CG). Also interested in the Renegade...

Thanks for the info. Concept has a nice 2010 with trip 300 Verados and a hard t-top for $130k. Out of my price range, but might be something you're interested in.

I, too, have heard the 36 with trips is some what ill handling. I would imagine a triple 300 xs boat will handle better than one with triple Verados (weight). However I have no seat time in one. I have an older 30 (non-step) and they are known to porpoise as well. mine only seems to porpoise at low speeds, under 37 MPH. I spin my props in which eliminate a lot of the porpoise... When making the jump to a 36' I plan to look for one with twin 300 xs Optis. Good luch in your search.

Thanks. I had a 30 with 250 EFI's. I raised the engines to the top hole and it resulted in a little porpoise, but the boat was a good bit faster. I ended up putting K-planes on it and could eliminate the porpoise with just a little tab. The boat ran a best of 72 on GPS. I enjoyed the 30, just looking for something a little bigger.

Is that one the Susan just listed (36PR black with some red stripes?

Pete280 07-23-2014 08:11 PM

Dave,
Have you also looked at 35 Donzi's Plenty of them around to choose from

Vyper340 07-27-2014 09:29 AM

I will give them a look too. Thanks.

If I can help answer any questions on a 36 with trips, I set one up with 300xs on it, spent a lot of money and time messing around on it. If I had to do it over I would have had twin 300's.

Ended up with a 32 with twins 250 optis that will be swapped for 300 Verados soon. Seems like the trip 36 boats are hit or miss on ride quality and the twin 36's are a little too slow. The 32 will fit my boating just fine, and the open layout actually gives you as much (or more) cockpit space as the 36.

Thanks, not quite ready yet, my old OX 66's actually run perfect and I dont really run enough hrs to justify the fuel savings. I had a pr of 06 225 Opti's and was real happy with them,

I think this is on point. I just don't think you get enough benefit from the third engine on boats this size to justify the additional cost of maintenance, fuel, and the porpoising issues. I had a PowerPlay with trip 250s but I would go twin 300s next time for sure.
