CPBA DISCOUNT at Ocean performance!
As many of you have heard me say I think OP is very important to Performance boating in CT!
Having a place dedicated to performance is great for us... Youve also heard me on occasion, discuss some issues members have had with them and how things get done there. I just spoke to Chris at Ocean performance yesterday about a conversation we had previously. I had let chris know about some of the problems people have told me about at Ocean, He was very concerned and kept an open mind, and was open to hearing what changes he could make to have happier customers. I was very impressed with how interested he was in what Our club members were thinking. So when he called me back yesterday, he said "I want to make some changes based on our conversation, I want to give a discount to CPBA members, and I want to help the club anyway I can!" One of the issues I spoke to him about was prices quoted changing, after the boat gets into the shop and the new price being a suprise to the owner. While its not always 100% possible because of parts being hidden, He is going to do the absolute best he can to Quote exactly the price he will charge for repairs in the future so theres never any suprises for the customer. I think all of this is a step in the right direction and I think it shows that CPBA is building momentum in our area. So if you need something done call chris, Let him know your a CPBA member, and give him a shot to show us just how well he will take care of our members! :drink: |
I've bought 2 boats from Chris and had a few small repairs done with him.....and have always been impressed with him. Good news to hear about a CPBA discount. :coolcowboy:

I like everybody at Ocean Performance but when I got an email from them, upset because Ron and I took the Donzi and Sutphen to Mike down the street to have the scan tool put on them, at Ron's request, I'm not sure I would consider using them in the future, discount or not. I replied to their email and never got a response. It's too bad, I really like Bill and I thought they did a wonderful job on the Donzi. I also like Mike at OffShore NorthEast. I didn't realize I have to pick between one or the other
|
Thank Jeff, nice to hear this.
I wonder if Chris would be willing to work with the club regarding storage... I know there have been multiple prices in the past with storage and it would be nice to see that straightened out and an actual discount applied for CPBA members. |

I would like to see a copy of what you posted too but I wasnt sure what forum and thread it was under. But yes that EMAIL started this entire dialog between myself and Chris and he came right out and said "I want to make sure that the CPBA guys are happy with us!" So technically that was his response to your email I just havent spoken with you since then. I understand your upset about it and I would like you to foward me that email so I can read it myself if you wouldnt mind. Also I think they took that post as you werent happy with them and wouldnt use them anymore. It was a bad thing all the way around and I think both sides (you and billy) got your feelings hurt at least that was my take on it. call me so I can discuss the rest of it with you. |
Hey Jeff,
I just sent you a copy of the email and my response to them. I would welcome a chance to settle this misunderstanding if they wish to get in touch with me with a response to the email I sent them or a call on my cell phone. |

As the 70 year-old Bob Dylan sings, "The times, they are a changin'"....a while back, when I went looking for parts for my SUTPHEN I was told they only service performance boats. I, then, offered my $0.02 on the matter. Market must be getting slow for them to now offer a discount to have me return. Thanks, but GBY has ALWAYS treated me like my money is as green as the rich guys. I'll believe this offer when time shows that it's sincere. Talk is cheap (or non-existent). Pony up!
BTW: Jeff, excellent effort at diplomacy! |
got that right they didnt no what my boat was , seems like if you have a boat under 24ft or a single small block in it or other things then you no good, thats just the way its seems sometimes etc.

What's changing is not the times its the people. Over the years I myself have let other employees take command as I tried to raise my family. I started Ocean Performance nearly 30 years ago in a trailer with no facilities or heat. I have always been dedicated to servicing my customers and thats how the business grew. Many of you remember these times. A lot of you guys I knew when you were 8 or 10 years old. I was dealing with your moms and dads and am proud that you all continued on in performance boating. There are no excuses-its my business-I lost touch with the day to day dealings. I apologize to any of you that might have been wronged. I stand before you all to say that I am here for all of you. To help performance boating stay here as the great recreation we all know it to be. The banks and the state and federal government will never help us. They feel we are all noise and water polluters. Running over manatees and coral reefs. We are not perceived to be "green". The only ones that will help the sport grow are ourselves. People have come in my shop and said oh he needs a lot of work you must be happy. NO! not happy. My job is to keep you guys running and hope that no one has massive repair bills. Are you going to tell your friends and family how much fun performance boating is if your boats is constantly in the shop. Of course not. As you can see I don't post often but it doesn't mean I don't closely follow what is happening not only on a local level but nationally and globally for that matter. I can only hope that you take a minute next time your in Old Saybrook to stop in and say hi. For those I never have met it will be great to put a face with a name or screen name. And look forward to getting reacquainted with those who I have lost touch with. Jeff and I will be working together to pass on some great service, parts and storage deals in the coming days. I hope you all take advantage of this collaboration. Lastly I am in it for the long haul-I suck at golf. Thanks, Chris

I have been doing business down there for about 7 years and they are all great people and have always been more then helpful. Those that have been unhappy because years ago they did not want to work on your boat because it was not a performance boat have to remember 10 hears ago theses guys where all busy and they did what they thought was best for their business and customers. I know with my business you can't be everything to everybody. I say go down and meet the guys down there and see how it goes. OP could be the new club house. By the way I think Mike is great guy too! I will tell you I have had a complete re rig, a boat painted, new interior, new gauges etc. They have been good to me over the years and always there when I need them.

I've got faith...let's do it! Performance boating stands on a precipice, OP and Cestaro have seen it grow and fall...let's collectively pick it up and move it forward....18' Donzi, 50' Maximus, 22 Scarab or 46 Skater...old or new, we should be in Chris' house. The activity, alone, will help sustain the sport.

Ocean Performance
Ive know Chris at OP since I was a young kid. I used to go to OP when it was Between the Bridges with my dad as he purchased our first Donzi there, prolly 30 Yrs ago. All I can say is hes has ALWAYS treated my family and boating friends fairly. Just recently he actually drove to Texas to p/u a boat that I purchased.... personally! To me, that says alot about this guy. Also, a great group of guys in the shop in the back that are very helpful too. Great knowing Chris through the years and looking forward to many more years of offshore boating with Chris' help and service.....Kevin

Anyone brought anything to OP yet?
I know Frankie goes there al the time but just wondering if any of the non regulars are taking advantage of this offer yet. BTW chris I suck at golf too! Maybe we should have a CPBA golf tournament!!! booze bad golfers and carts what could go wrong? I also want to get this boating swap meet up and running in the very near future I was thinking of having it at the blue building next to greg fiorellis place. GOtta get in touch with the owners though. |
do they work on volvo 290 outdrives and do they rehub mercury props to fit those drives
|
I will happily give them my business but I need to know that they care enough about my business to take the time and get in touch with me. Even a PM on this site would work.

Thanks Kevin,
What do you think of a machine gun shoot for the members at Metacon sometime this summer? I have a bunch of ammo reloaded and can bring some different guns for members to try out. I don't want to take away from boating time though. Maybe the fall would be better. |
bad info

Fall it is. I will start a seperate thread in the club forum when the time comes. Thanks Chris for PM'ing me. I will try and call you tomorrow. I really appreciate your follow through.
Took the 21 out today and hit 80 for the first time in a boat. It was awesome. Started to chine walk a bit and I chickened out and pulled it back. I never felt that before. Like yawing in an airplane. Kind of an uncomfortable feeling. I need more practice.... |
Chris,
I was good to talk with you and thanks for keeping the doors open for a few extra minutes Sat. afternoon! I figured it would be a long shot that you'd have intake gaskets for Dart Big Chief heads, but you never know! Scot |
