Need Assistance With the History of This Boat

Hello All,
I'm a newbie to the whole lifestyle of power boating and to this board, but was wanting to see if anyone out there had any information they might be willing to share?? I recently purchased a 2001 DCB Mach 34 (F-34) in an auction there in Lake Havasu, but have yet to receive the title to it. I was just wanting to know if anyone might be able to give a little information on it, as to who the previous owner was, where the boat was run and how, and anything else that you might feel helpful in determining the history and story of this boat. It came without engines nor drives, so I have a project on my hands for sure, but look forward to undertaking the task. I don't know if the engines were removed for a quick cash sale or if they were removed to be rebuilt and are still sitting in someone's shop or garage or if they were blown at some point and worthless. The drives...same story on them...were they sold, in the process of being rebuilt or are they floating around somewhere taking up space?? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have contacted Dave at DCB and he is working up quotes for the replacement engine hatches and seat cushions (oh yeah...they were missing too). Thank you much and I look forward to learning all I can from the experienced driver's/pilots of these beasts.

Greg

I don't know much about the boat, but I think it had 900SC Mercs with #6 drives. I think they used it at the LA boat show back in 01ish. Been a long time since I've seen it, looks like it still has the dually trailer?

Good luck, its a project for sure!

Thanks for the reply ToMorrow44. It does indeed still have the dually trailer. I spoke to Dave at DCB and you are correct. He did indicate that it was originally setup with 900's and #6 drives. He thought that it might have run in the 115-120 MPH range as such, but didn't give me any further information. I was hoping someone might be able to lead me to the previous owner that might be able to give me the "skinny" on what Dave didn't give me. I'm hoping to have this beast ready for the water next Spring.

Thanks again. Have a great day.
Greg

Today you might be better off rigging the boat with ScX drives on extension boxes. The boats prefer less transom weight. Mine works very well with the SCX drives with #6 cleavers. It would be less expensive and the boat will like it.

When talking to Dave were you able to identify if the boat had the updates performed to the bottom? There were a number of updates that came out and would be good to know to aid you in setting up the boat. Dave should be able to identify that and have input on how to setup the boat. The early F34's had some handling issues.

Not too sure I completely agree with skidoc on the #6 comment. If the boat is designed and set up CG correctly should be able to carry the weight of the 6's just fine and crush the waves/wakes in the process. Then again, maybe the F34 just does not like the weight and lighter weight aft helps with the handling issues.....My F32 loves the weight of the 6's and can run over stuff I could not in a 33 Daytona with bravos.

Thanks for the reply Don Johnson. Dave did NOT indicate if the updates had been perfromed on the bottom of the boat. In fact, he didn't give me any further information than what was posted. I know he is probably very busy this time of year, but I was hoping that maybe he would put me in contact with one of his office staff that MIGHT be able to look into those things for me and give me more information that what I have. I am waiting on a reply from Dave for my request for quote for them to fabricate the engine hatches for the beast, but that has been several weeks ago. In all reality, I was HOPING (read PRAYING) that someone on the forum might know the previous owner of this rig that MIGHT just happen to have the hatches, seat cushions and MAYBE the engines and drives lying around somewhere and would like to make some money on them??!! Hey...you can't blame a guy for a pipe-dream, right?? :lolhit:

I have heard about the handling issues with the F-34, but I believe SkiDoc has one himself (don't know what generation/year) and it could be experience from which he speaks regarding the ScX drives with extension boxes. I have been given a couple of leads on good, solid places to have the work done on the boat and will be following up with them in the next week or so. Maybe they can give me a little insight as to whether or not any of the updates were done on the bottom, if they knew the previous owner or story, etc.

Thanks again for the reply.
