Primer advice from the experts
As many of you know- I am currently in the process of painting my boat. I have a couple of questions that I hope some of you might be able to help me with.
First of all, my boat has multiple repairs and stripes. Should I use Evercoat's G2 Polyester Primer for "high build"? Can I seal after that, or do I need to follow that up with K36? I have access to PPG and Dupont- so if there is some other product I should be using please let me know. Thanks guys- Scott |
Re: Primer advice from the experts
Scott,
The Evercoat product will work, however you say you have access to Dupont. Many Dupont distributors carry either Standox or Spies Hecker. The Standox product I would recomend is PE Filler #14947 or Spies Raderal Spray Poly #3508-.09 both can fill up to 40 mils and sand much easier than the Evercoat product without shrinkage. You will have to follow with a K36 or Dupont Uro Filler to seal a polyester as they are porous and absorb water. There are some excelent Satndox or Spies primers also just don't know what you have access to. |
Re: Primer advice from the experts
I use an epoxy primer called Glass Shield made in Quebec canada. This stuff is amazing. It takes 7 days to completely cure, but its bullet proof. Seals even bad substrates.

I have used Duratec and Ginger is right, it does fill well, but doesn't sand as well ( kick with MEK) as K36 which I like which fills and sands well. It also make a good basecoat sealer with min. mils.
