Want to paint my old galvanized trailer, have some PPG left from the boat. Can paint with a Zinc Chromate primer then cover that with PPG DP Epoxy primer?

Now you've gone way too far. That will look so pretty sitting in the garage. I used dp 40 on everything i thought might peel! Ask panther . I think he knows a guy.

Hunster...how were the results? Will be painting a 47 Galv Myco this week - any tips are greatly appreciated. I found a web site that said to mild acid wash prior to painting with the older galv. trailers, standard primer and acrylic after that.

I just had some reactions with the regular primer or sealer. The epoxy primer was more expensive but it was cheaper not having to deal with the reaction issues and re spraying. I used to use the ppg deltron system. Mr V just did hid boat with ppg too. Never tried it on galvanized though.

Painting weather galvanized surfaces - Power wash to remove all salts - then power wash again - Blast clean rusted areas - if you have time or $$ lightly bruch blast all other areas to remove the shine - Prime using "Vinyl Wash Primer" apply VERY thin 1/2 mil - just enough to change the color to a very light green too much is bad - epoxy prime top coat using aliphatic polyurethane -

Notes - Never use alkyd paints or paints with high acid content and can hydrate ( absorb) moisture - Failures most often occur on galvanized when the wrong type of paint is used over galvanized surfaces -
