sea cast
 

A guy I now wants to hire someone to finish his stringers he cut the tops off and cleaned out all the old muck and wood:rolleyes:, and said he thinks sea cast would work with out wood or balsa or foam. what do you guys think can you just mix up gallons of sea cast pour it and be done is it safe, he said he heard that the transom of the 50' callen marine was made of it:rolleyes: so anyone should I tell him hes right or wrong:p:D art ps thanks for any input.

I have never use the stuff, that being said I would go back to glassing in wood. Also, i would think that on the stringers where the engine mounts go you would need wood for the lag bolts to grip into. I am guessing the seacast is some form of a fiberglass misture? It will more than likely crack when tightening down the bolts into it. I may be wrong so if I am someone correct me but that is just how I see it.

It is okay if you want to go that route in a transom on a non hi power boat. However I wouldnt use it in a hi power application let alone frames currently.. I also dont currently use it, but I have seen it & had some samples of it.. It is more like a liquid gorrilla hair filler.. I still like using wood or if you what the no wood route using structural fiberglass, or coosa etc....

yeah me too. like I said he was asking, I wood not use it. {get it} :p ok thanks on that now me I want to install to new bulkheads where there was only one, so I am thinking of coosa one in front of motor all the way to the gunnel and one where the cabin begins, they had plexi glass bolted to both sides for light I guess:rolleyes:, so I WAS GOING TO JUST GLASS ON TOP OF THE FLOOR BULKHEAD ADD TO IT. art

What exactly did hot boat do?? i just did a seacast transom job,seems good so far,bracket and 2 250's are on and they didn't fall off yet,as in one of the other posts,someone said cracking when tightened up?? tripps

our shop has been doing stringers and transoms for 20 yrs. put wood back in and glass it like it was if that stuff was the woop boat builders would use it in their process
