I'm with Chris do not use Coosa for your transom. It is great for everything EXCEPT transoms and It is fine for non performance boat transoms but it does not handle compression as well as wood. And as said above if you really want a bomber layup use 3 layers of half inch that will also give you more options to vary your stagger.

Glassdave why don't you call Coosa and talk to them before you dis their product, the knowledge you will gain might just come in handy in your future projects if you are willing to go first class, of course. If wood was worth a F he wouldn't be replacing it now, would he?

Excal you are too funny. I do use Coosa and it is a great product. At no point did i "dis" their product i just dont use it in transoms and many other people in the performance end of it feel the same way. Like i said in non performance applications it is great, I just dont feel it can take the compressive loads seen in the offshore environment. And yes Coosa will retain water as well.

It won't rot and has higher compressive strenght than ply.

I'm shocked that you use it, I thought you only used bucket's of polyester, and glass.

Agreed, some of the stuff he did on that boat would be a little iffy on a performance boat. His transom replacement method looked easy and solid.

He must have had over 2000 hours in that little boat. Came out nice.

been there. . . done that . . . and will do it again. i had an old 24 foot Omega daycruiser (Hawaiian knock off) i started in on a floor replacement and before i knew it i was down to the bare hull :D fun boat but i went offshore after that and the boats (and projects) just got bigger. you just hafta respect the dedication that some put into their rides, truly a labor of love. I am looking a an old 27 sport Magnum right now that is just short of a burning barrel. I can see the diamond in the ruff though. My thought is to get rid of one of my offshores and get a cruiser than have a smaller go fast for bombing around in. Blown smallblocks with XR's and Sportmasters. . . . . . :cool-smiley-011:
