transom
I was installing my trim tabs over the weekend, every thing went great except 1 hole,I accidently used the wrong size/bigger drill bit on 1 hole, what can I use to fill the hole up again and redrill it with the correct size drill bit??
Its in the transom so I want to make sure its done correctly!! thanks |
you can glue in a tooth pick or a hardwood sliver , dowel rod ,really any piece of wood. use a good glue like tightbond

3M has some epoxies that are bullet proof! (too many to list)
There is also a material called Devcon. You mix it up on a small pallet and squeeze it into the hole. Then re-drill to your specs. We used to use devcon at the race track to fix cracked blocks and heads. the stuff dries in ten minutes and holds water!!! At least the car finished the race! |
what size hole are we talking? Are they through bolted or...?

Call a local building supply and buy a tube of AC-100 by Powers Fasteners. It's a 2-part filled polyester that self-mixes. You can get it in a 5 oz. tube that will work in a caulking gun. Squirt the first couple inches of stream out so you're assured of injecting a properly mixed batch. It's pretty thick- works well in horizontal holes. I'll guarantee it will be the toughest thing on your boat. We use it to fasten machine mount anchors into concrete- on a 3/4" hardened rod the yield strength is 17,000 lbs. You can drill & tap it or screw a lag bolt into it- make sure to get the root diameter right- this stuff doesn't compress. Lube the bolt before installing.

I would definately go with the dow rod "wood" and coat it in resin. I wouldn't play around with all the wrong stuff(epoxies and glues), They way you can feel really good repairing it correctly !!!

stay with wood and fiberglass resin

theres a stringer on the other side. Cigarette lags those, the one that is in the stringer. They use to anyway. |
I notched my stringers. If that is not an option then like Dave said you can get the stainless lags.
