PPG dbc vs. dbu
What is the difference between dbc and dbu?
Also what is the differance between DP401LF and DP402LF Epoxy Primer Catalyst? |
DBC is PPG's earliest OEM mathcing system and is a bit outdated with a reactive reducer, DBC is their second effort OEM system. Both are great but DBC is more user friendly and uses a straight reducer and eliminates one product from the shelf. Both give pretty much the same results but i stick with DBC.
The DP401LF requires an induction time of about a half hour before the primer can be sprayed and has a long pot file (i think like 24 or 48 hours or something) the DP402LF is for impatient people (like me :D) that want to mix an spray with no waiting but has a much shorter pot life (like a few hours) both give pretty much the same results. |
Thanks alot dave, but you refferd to both as dbc witch is witch. Thanks for your help.

PPG's P-pages (instruction sheets) say DP401LF will have as much as 50% better adhesion than the faster DP402LF especially on bare metal.
Dave, Do you buy into this? I used to shoot DP402 before it was replaced with the Lead Free product and had great results. Since the introduction of LF I have been using DP401LF hoping for the best possible grip. Jon |
yes i would believe that for bare metal but doubt it is that much for gel coat. I only use the DP primers to spot prime and cover repairs on white gel. The only time i prime or seal completely is a full color change and have never had an adhesion problem. I use both 401 and 402 and lean toward 401 for the most part but do like to keep 402 on hand as well.
