Repainting?
If I buy a boat with a god-awful paint scheme at a great price is it reasonable have it completely repainted or am I asking for trouble?
I could stand up to $25k in paint before I thought I was doing too much, I think I could get it done for that much (nothing crazy 2, 3 colors max) ... I'm more worried about the quality and getting everything (preferably without completely taking the boat apart). Thanks, Kyle BTW .. boat in question is a 38 footer. |
It depends on how the boat was painted originally. Can you feel edges of the stripes? If so the boat will have to be stripped which is expensive. Also consider how much hardware is on the boat that will need to be removed and re-installed.

It's a go fast (fountain lightning), so not a ton of hardware. It's practically new too ... 2008 with 24 hours. I have no idea what the previous owner was thinking, I could understand if it were a late 80s, early 90s boat. I'd also like to change from a white hull to silver... that may make things interesting. I suppose my next call should be to a paint shop, I'm just concerned they'll tell me whatever I want to hear to get the business. |

Paint is smooth, no stripes ... it actually looks like a bunch of multi-colored neon sperm (sorry no pics online).

Repainting a boat is not usually a problem, unless there are other underlying issues. A lot of boats are painted. We are just a few hrs north of you & do standard & custom stuff all the time. If our services may interest you feel free to call me.. :)
