Plugs in transom
I just put some wooden plugs (dowels) in my transon where some holes had been that will not longer be used. Trim tabs, speedo pickup, etc. I installed them with West System epoxy mixed with 404 filler. I am going to paint the boat. Should I fill the low spots with mixed West epoxy or should I use fiberglass resin????? I am sure the fiberglass would sand out easier but I want to do it the best way.

Dont put Polyester anything over Epoxy, I believe you are now stuck with Epoxy, however since the epoxy was only used in small qty, and as a glue, it may be OK, Glassdave can answer better. |
yep, no poly fillers of any kind on top of epoxy. If your repairs are small enough you might be able to get away with one of the Silver Tip trial kits. Problem with epoxy fairing fillers is they are hard to find in small quantities.
http://www.systemthree.com/store/pc/...Kit-48p235.htm they use to have free trial samples that were a few onces i had them send me one a few months ago. Maybe call them and tell them you have a shop and read about QuickFair in Boatbuilding magazine and saw a small ad for a sample maybe they still have them. http://www.systemthree.com/store/pc/...-Kit-17p78.htm best way is to grind back the repairs a bit and epoxy some fiberglass in them. After its fully cured (usually a few days with no forced heat) sand that down and fill any imperfections with QuickFair. You could actually get away with out the QuickFair if the glasswork is accurate and clean enough. |
