Gel Coat DIY Help and Through Hole Patch Help

Okay, lets see if I can explain this right. I have chips in the clearcoat throughout the hull. Some not deep and and 2 small that are down to the glass. Is it just as simple as what I've been reading and buying white gel coat, applying, letting it cure then sand and polish? Guess Im looking for some pointers and what I may need to do this.

Second thing is I have 5 through holes about 8 to 10 inches from the front of the bow, right behind the center pop up cleat. They are in the pattern that looks like the 5 side of a dice and filled with silicone to seal and the screws from an old light that was previously installed. How could I fill these and re gel coat without having to pull out the roof lining in the cabin?

First you need to know if you have paint or gelcoat, or both.

If it is gel you can sometimes just fill, fair, wetsand & polish out. That is if they are small & the color match is on. Otherwise you will be feathering & blending as well.

If you have both you will have to also touch up the clear as well for the gloss and repair to look right.

In short it is not always as simple as a fill & polish..

Hope this helps.. :) Jamie / Lakeside
