deck and hull side bonding
 

My hull and deck have seperated and am wondering about the process of re bonding... what to use, I bought some 3m 5200 and was going to use that but wanted some thoughts...

I know there is a thread about the plexus not holding on some formulas and am looking for something affordable/ attainable to the average person to purchase and use...

I have always used 5200 , have undone all the screws, used two large flat blades to pull seam apart while someone else runs a bead,then when iys done fresh screws all around and I stagger them so they dont end up in the old holes, since the nose is the
part that takes the most punishment I usually crawl in the front anchor locker and grind the glass on the inside and bond top and bottom together with couple layers of glass and resin. This should suffice for most boats and is relatively cheap though time consuming.

The nose and transom are still bonded, just the sides are loose... and a few screws are sheared off, I'll get the bonding done this weekend

What kind of boat, What year??

Its a 1989 Formula 272, I bought it last fall and had it out 2 or 3 times before winter... It seemed to Slam the waves very hard, I'm sure glad I caught it and hopefully it will feel like a solid boat this season

I split the hull/deck joint on my cruiser last winter and filled it full of 5200 then rethru bolted it. Amazing how much more solid and quiet the boat was last summer on the water over the factory applied silicone which was a hit or miss application.

There is a lot of info on the formula section of OSO. I would look at the thread prior to using 5200. There also is a video posted using a plunge cutter to clean the seam prior to repairing. Good Luck
