are polyester primer good for miner imperfections do they shrink and who brand if any thanks

I try to stay away from high build poly primers in an attempt to keep millage down. My thought is when you increase film thickness you make it easier to chip. I fill small surface imperfections with 3M's premium marine and spot prime.
