Cleaner water for the props, but often leads to a hop or porpoise as the boat runs out of hull when up on plane.

When I redo my 19 foot Baron/Powerplay/Powerquest I am toying with the idea of notching the transom at the same time I redo the stringers and transom so I can raise the ex dimension.
Just a little concerned if it is worth it to lose 8inches of the last 3 feet of bottom i am riding on at 60 with a stock 260 and a deep drive i have now.
Looking for another 15 mph with a 350hp and a raised ex, i think it's doable as the boat has a ton of rocker and already carries the bow without trim.

Not a big deal for me to cut and reglass the notch when i redo the transom and it makes sense to do it if i am going for a raised ex and all.

I can see where it can be real beneficial on a longer boat without sacrificing the length of the running surface so you can omit setback boxes and all.

My concern is a boat that I was looking at, the owners had added a notch to a non-notch boat.. It sold though so its off the list..
