boat buff and wax

What is the best buffing material ? and what is the best wax to use ?

Depends on how bad the finish is. I would recommend 3M's system. Compound, finish glaze and a good 100% carnauba wax. There is no easy way to do it correctly.

I use this http://www.meguiars.com/en/marine

The one step works great, even for highly oxidized finishes.

I use a high speed buffer with a good 7" pad.

I don't used carnuba wax on my boat because I was told it can cause yellowing of the white.

For waxing and glaze I use this little monster http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-7...0451731&sr=8-1

This is a DA high speed machine that will remove all swirl marks.

Take you time, do one area from start to finish then look at the boat in the sun to make sure you are doing a good job.

If your boat is really bad you may have to hit it with a 1500-2000 grit wet sand first. Then heavy cut compound, to med cut, to machine glaze, to wax.

Good luck, and give yourself 3 days to do it right.

X2 for Meguiar's...I recently picked up an old 72 Glastron with oxidized gel. Gave it a quick wet sand with 1200 then Meguiar's #105 compound and a firm yellow lake country foam pad on the same Porter Cable at speed 6; then turned the PC down to 4 1/2 got an orange LC pad and some #45 marine polish...WOW! looks like new! now onto the marine flagship wax..

well, i have been using 3M's 6085 Perfect-it compound over the years but it seems like they changed the formula over the last year or so. Still works ok but wants to smudge on the finish (particularly fresh paint). Works best if you use it sparingly. Should be fine on a older finish that has long since cured if you are looking to buff it. If you just need a good cleaner wax i like Hula's HangTen or Big Kahuna.
