Floor and Structure Questions

I need some education.

I have a 1988 Mirage 27 and while getting the seats all redone I took out the fuel tank sender access cover to redo it as well. This area is a square cut out that ends at the bilge and I had some wet ply in one rea from water draining through that area and I pressume sitting on the tank.

Since I have never dealt with molded cockpits I thought I would see how wet the ply was extending so I did a core drill. I found that the floor is at least 1/2 or so fully molded glass with very thin ply maybe 1/4 or less in thickness on top of the tank, which seems to me has nothing to do with the structure. There is no give in the floor which at that thickness of glass there probably would not be.

I was wondering if any one knew the construction of this thing, is the ply just used for the molding process?

Is there foam used under the floors I should be concerned with or is it some other floatation scheme?

Any info would be appreciated as I am now curious.
