removing graphics
I have an idea for a paintjob on my 32 Fountain, but am going to have to do it in stages due to funds...I'm trying to get an idea on what it would cost to have the current graphics removed, they are not under the gel, but other than that, I'm not too sure how involved it would be, and even if I could do it myself without there being "ghost outlines". I posted a pic on this thread if you need an idea of what it looks like now. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...in-family.html
I would appreciate a ballpark idea on cost if someone could chime in. I won't hold anyone to it, promise! |
On a 15 year old boat, there is no way you will be able to remove the graphics and not see the lines from where they were.

I'm going through the same thing, changing my graphics had to sand everything back to gel, prime and repaint the whole sides. It's a ton of work
Maybe consider changing the colors of what you have it's a lot easier |

You can try to use Collonite Fiberglass Cleaner to remove any built up oxidation around the graphics and then wetsand the subtle lines that are raised from the graphics. On a well maintained boat you can get it pretty level. May take a few applications but that stuff is like magic in a bottle. I've done a few for people that don't want to repaint/regraphic and they're like 2 footers or better.

But you are still going to have subtle color differences. Behind the graphics will be whiter from no sun

Sand prime and block the hullsides. Have your new graphics go up and cover the old graphic above the rub rail. No need to paint the whole upper half.

wrap over it....

I'm going through this right now, a i will tell you its a ton of work... first i tried to sand as much as i can out, then i feathered out all the edges of the old graphics, then i primed with PPGs k36, then sand it out using guide coat so i know were all high and low spots are at, primed again today sand it one more time then seal it and paint... hope to have all the paint work done by Christmas...
