Inverted Hatch scoops
 

How hard is it to build inverted scoops in the hatch like this photo? I'm planning for the cat project hatch something like this. The engines are low enough in the bilge to have a flat hatch without big scoops for the ladies sun bathing but I need to get some air in there too for the whipples. I see some big cats with big power without big scoops. Are these inverted scoops the trick?
