Transom Fitting
I am going to be replacing the transom on my 38 Flat Deck. My plan is to de-rig it, cut out old transom, and cut new wood in, then take it to get epoxied and glassed in with some other paint work done as well. My question is how tight do I cut the wood? Do you want to have a gap all the way around the edges for epoxy or do you want it snug?
Thanks in advance, Ryan |
Ayuh,.... I prefer the new pieces to be a snug fit, not so tight that ya need to beat the pieces in, but reasonably snug,....
Even with epoxy, ya loose strength addin' fillers,... |
I like to leave enough room on to put a piece of structural glass directly on the old glass/hull between the new wood and old glass. I'm not a fan of bedding new core directly to the old laminate
