Blend clear coat?
 

Can you make clear coat repairs like gelcoat? Wet sand, blend and polish? Have a few problem spots where clear has popped.

I would say it depends on where u plan on making the blend. It can be done but it can get tricky and have dry spots.

it most certainly can but it is an aquired art. I can seamlessly blend just about anything, any color, anywhere . . . . . but I been doing it for years :D. It really comes down to how you handle the blend area before during and after the blend. Unfortunatly every repair is different and blend technique varies from job to job and is tailored on the fly. The actual blend is done very quickly, sometimes I will have three guns going (straight clear, a cut mix that can be from fifty to eighty percent reduced, and a straight blending solvent) and it only takes a minute or two to do the edge. Ive also found some tricks that help make a seamless blend, prep the area beforehand with a course compound and try to keep the blend line as short as possible. my actual blend area may only span three inches or so. The follow up is critical as well I usually hit the blend line gingerly with 2000 or so the a quick single pass with my small DA with 3000 trizak then polish keeping the direction of the buffer going away and off the blend. These are just a few general guidlines but ya get the gist :cool:

Thanks you for the responses. Seems like this is a bit outside my skill set. The areas are far too exposed for trail and error maybe leave this one to a pro....

the issue is more what is under the clear that is lifting?
is it original white gelcoat or a painted surface?
when you feather the clear that is lifting and prep for refinish if there is paint especially (basecoat paints) you will lose that color under it, if its metalic the problem is even tougher, add a shadow or a fade into the mix and you really need someone who knows what they are doing to not only repair the underlying color but perform the open solvent blend in the clear

RobF the main area I want fixed does have a blue paint or gel coat under clear coat. The paint scheme in that particular spot has a fade from dark blue to light, So to match paint will be difficult to do myself, but there are other spots that are doing the same thing where white gel is under. all the spots that have "popped" are where fenders hang....
