yo glass dave

Hey man im wanting to build an 18ft donzi like hull to mount a 300 on. I wamt to build the form of wood and lay the glass on top of it. Then spray a ton of gelcoat or fiberfil on top of the glass then square up lifting strakes and hull lines with my air tools.
Id use 1/8" plywood to make it and use a few gallons of body filler to shape all the curved areas of the bow rear corners etc
Same on the deck and cockpit and dash area all in 1/8" ply.
paint it all with cheap enamel amd what you recommend for a release agent.

You see any problem with my plan? Importing a boat is such a nightmare im thinking this is my best bet to get a 24* hull.

Thx in advance for ur opinion, rm

prolly best for you to just fly me to your island . . . . I'll bring my rollers  lol

Whats the chances of finding a "builder" 24/7 down there somewhere and use it for a plug. or have they all been recruited as "work boats". Theres gotta be something laying around somewhere that could serve as a plug. You could certainly loft one in flat work and refine it and pull a mold. If your not particularly concerned about initial finish out of the mold, in other words you are fine doing post processing on the hull, Partall wax and PVA are a decent release and pretty much guarantees the mold wont lock onto the plug. Specifically need an 18' or would close be good.

18 to 22im cool with. Nothing here is 24* tho. I want to jang a pr of eggneaters on it like 120 or 150hp.
rig em on a bracket so i can have a pr of buckets and three rows of bench seats to move people

Everything ive seen is almost flat bottom with some v in the nose nut 14* or 18*

I want lite layup lots of seats and 75mph top end or more some room for guests bags under the bow

Cabosil, but in your neighborhood, other white powdery substances may be cheaper and more readily available...

A good cheap trowel-able pastish kinda thing can be made from some commonly avaliable blown in insulation stuff. Theres a local fiberglass guy that buys a lot of stuff from me that turned me on to an insulation from Certainteed that makes a rock hard mixture for pennies. Check your big box stores if ya have them down there that is.

As far as boat build it may be possible to get old school patterns and loft it from scratch. It would also be possible to also do a 3D model here and then do a cross sections every foot or so and print those out at full scale. Mail the paper patterns to you where you could cut them out in wood and batten strip it all together at full scale. Would be the simplest and very accurate way to get exactly what you want. Kinda like this . . . . .

I would love to do that. There is a local dude i could have belp me do it that does some nice glass layup. I figure out a layup schedule and build hull like that with the battons and plywood.

phragle robs 21 would be a great boat to splash. 24 degree bottom, it is almost exaclty a scaled down 24/7. I'll see what it will take to make some patterns, i have a fifty inch plotter that would handle it

Some good info on this link
