Stringer Install , Vacuum Bag and Infusion?
 

I have a old Jet boat that needs the Stringers and Transom replaced , I have to Laminate 3/4 ply to make the Stringers . I'm using B70 to Bed the Stringers in the hull.
I'm thinking I would like to Vacuum Infuse the 1708 tabing and reinforcement to the hull , one shot .
Anyone have experience with this ? I wonder if its worth the trouble ? I think it would be a Whole lot less mess or PITA than wet lay up.

for something that minor its not worth the trouble. Not knowing what the surrounding structure is like getting a good seal and pressure would be difficult. Now if its purely for the experience then its a good place to learn some new tricks, its certainly a worthwhile process and worth knowing. The efficiency of materials and lack of mess are worth it thats for sure.

Hey Dave ! The Sealing issue is what I was worried about . But I have a 5 HP Vacuum pump I got from an auction at Penske's race shop . It was used for making Indycar tubs .
I think I can overcome the Leaks! At least I hope so! I'm going to do a test pull without reinforcement , and see if I can seal it down . I'll post picks .

nice! I have a two stage Edwards M30. Volume is what you need as vac is linear once its up to (or down to) 29.92 in/mg but it sounds like you have the right pump I'm sure anything Peske had is top notch. My pump was almost $3K and sucks! lol

Yes do a test pull to see if you can even get a seal on the area. Its not so much overcoming leaks its more about a total seal. If you have a high volume pump and it can overcome the leaks it will most likely pull more air into the laminate. I have a regulator i built (thanks Steve Koss) that allows me to adjust the draw in case i want to lighten the bag pressure. Some resins can actually be pulled almost dry if your not careful.

What chapter in the book will cover Vacuum Bagging?

Mine is an Ingersoll V-16 . F--ker is like new. Fill us in on the Regulator ? And the book !
