Default 496 raw water pump scoring?

This is a new to me boat and not knowing the exact history of it decided to replace the impellor. Little did I know how much of a pain in ass this was, feel like I took half the boat apart to get there. The impeller actually looks to be in good shape, however I think the housing has the dreaded scoring. What are my options now? Replace with a stainless kit for $500, or is there a decent repair it that is worth it? Hate to send the money for a new one, but also with as much as this is a pain in thr butt I don't want to be redoing it again right away.

Bdbwtie,

Yup. That’s what mine looked like. Only my impeller had one foot in the grave.

I ended up putting a complete new Merc pump on mine. Cost me a grand, P&L, to have it done, because I didn’t want to stand on my head to do it.

Thanks. Brad.

Merc makes wear plates and an impellar to match those plates. See my link. Cheap and effective.

Nope.
It is over a page or so. Not one post.
Thus why i haven’t copied and pasted. Not that easy.

i spent way much more time/effort at the time to come up with that info, so if someone can’t spend a few minutes to gain access to it, oh well. Their laziness, not mine. :thumbs

Me comprendo ? :wink
