oil pump
I am rebuilding a 1997 mercruuiser 454 mpi bravo one set up. The problem I have is the machine shop tossed the old oil pump and the pick up and screen were with it .They provided a new oil pump with no pick up and screen. Mercury does not give a break down of these parts and list for a new one is around $ 230.00 [part #827643] .Does any one know availabilty of screen and tube seperately. thanks

Check with GM. I bet they will have what you need. Find an old guy that doesn't have to have a computer jammed up his ass to figure things out.

Thanks . I convinced my merc part supplier to sell me one on the pretense that he will take it back for full refund if i can match it up.

If its a standard big block oil pan autozone sells a pick up.

Make sure you tack weld it to the body. I just pulled apart a 454 and the pickup was laying in the bottom of the pan. The pickup should also have a strap tacked to the pickup head and run it up to one of the pump cover screws. This will keep the tube from vibrating and cracking.
P.S. Isn't it the machine shop's problem to find you a replacement? Virtually every state requires the return of the old parts. |
I done some serching in the GM performance parts catalog. I came up with part # 12555167. This is a pickup and pump assembly. The pump in this assembly is what is used on the GEN VI crate engines. The mesurement from the pan rail to the pickup is 5.87 inches. All the GEN VI crate engines come with a 6 quart pan, thus needing a shorter pickup. This is the only part number compatable with the 8 quart pan. GM may do this as an assembly to prevent the wrong pickup being installed with an 8 quart pan. Hopefully this will help.

Correction on the measurement. It is 5.87 inches from the pump mounting surface to the bottom of the screen.
