I will be doing the same thing soon.

I've been doing some research on the powder coat and it seems a lot of people are steering away from the powder coat because its not very durable. I read somewhere that when the coat is punctured like a scratch then it compromises the whole coating. I would venture to say the shifters were powdercoated at one point and look how that turned out:(. I think livorsi powder coats their gauge bezels and I read a thread wear the coating was coming off after just 1-2 years. Seems like a lot of work and no benefit.

I need some help with the colors. White handles, red handles, chrome. Do I do the base and handles all the same color, or maybe do black and chrome handles like Steve H has done. I'm leaning towards a black base and red handles, but its different everyday.

I would go red base and black handles,or red base with chrome and red shifters.

something like this.
like the idea of the red base just because the dash is red.

Thanks man, I think I may need to revisit the classifieds to get some more ideas. Too bad, I was enjoying not shopping anymore.

i feel your pain. i dont know how many hours i spent deciding what colors to use when i did the bullet. worse then a woman shopping for clothes

the throttles are easy to take apart. if i remember right there is only one way to put them back together. mark the cables before you take them off or just pull on one to see which engine it goes to.

red base & polishes handles would be my choice.....

If you want it to match the rest of your dash, go with white base and handles and get a black bezel for the base. I would also get a white card for the trim/tab indicator.

I am going to try the white base. I did not think of the black bezels, but we shall see. I'm going to try it first with some white vinyl and if I don't like it then I will try some black vinyl. I figure at $3 a foot I might as well sample it out first before I have it painted or powdercoated. I'll post some pics when I get it done.

The trim tab indicator is getting replaced with a white one because one of the needles is broken. Next year I will have someone custom make me another trim and drive tab control panel in white.

shifter coating

Hey, did you ever get your shifter done. I live and boat on lake Texoma. I have done a lot of powder coating on my boat and engine with good results. We have three powder coating companys here in Sherman. One has a color called super chrome that might look real good on the handles. If I can help let me know.

Evidently your hand or something rests there, so paint may not hold up. Powedercoat would be a cheap, yet durable finish and highly recommended. But you need to disassemble the throttle/shifter.

Good luck, boat looks great!

It's very easy to deassemble the bracket. I have a Kiekhaefer and it's just three screws and it's apart. Be aware of the two small balls and springs that's used to lock the shifter and throttle to stick since there's no way to adjust friction.

Just take it apart and sand the parts before you paint with two component primer and paint!

I'm redonig my for the moment since I'm going to use a foot throttle and dont need the throttle lever any more. The base is shortened to better fit my panel. Just some sanding left and the paintjob.
