new steering pump
 

I have almost pieced together all the parts i need for a steering system (full hydraulic).......
My question is will a stock gm power steering pump work, i have been told that ya need to drill out the exit side of it for more oil volume, what else is there besides that????

The Saginaw pump is basically a gm p/s pump.

I have found the actual Marine version on EBay
for less then half the cost from merc.

You also need to change the shims in the relief valve to raise the pressure.

I added Imco full Hydraulic the past year and did nothing to the pump (stock) and it works great .... not saying its right but it works perfect ...m

The factory GM pump will work, What's the operating pressure of your steering system?

factory pumps will not work ! they may last for a few days but you WILL see failure and hopefully it will not be at high speeds...

What you will see for sure is at high speeds the steering will act "weird" and respond slow, then "jerk"....just like if you had low oil level...guess why ? lower oil pressure and volume level then required by system....don't make this mistake, it may cost you more in the end

I know of at least two threads on here loaded with guys that will disagree with you......As long as you change the valve in the back of the pump to your stock merc pump they are exactly the same.............
