Donald I installed 1" spacers and then took them back out and sold them. You will need stock couplers for the vertical shaft which compensate for the removal of the spacer.

I think I am probably screwing up by doing this but I figured I would try it for the limited amount it will cost. I think once they added the extra weight of the cabin to my boat that the high X probably isn't very user friendly. We'll see.... 82 degrees this Saturday!!! I'm envisioning a trip to Pier 13 in my future!!!:D |

Thanks, I will need to install stock length studs also, correct?
You will also need stock length studs (6) and the shorter bolt which is covered by the anode on the bottom of the cavitation plate. I think once they added the extra weight of the cabin to my boat that the high X probably isn't very user friendly. We'll see.... Spacers, props (4 vs. 5 blade) vs. top speed, cruising speed and getting on plane are all interconnected. No way to tell unless you try or know someone who has done it with your boat. If cruise speed and getting on plane are a problem after removing the spacer a 5 blade prop may compensate but will it give you the top speed you got by removing the spacer? Try to get accurate tach readings and GPS speeds before and after to check to see how you affect the slip numbers and write it down to evaluate the changes. I get into a tail spin with props blah blah blah because what looks like an improvement in 70 degree dry weather does not do so well on our hot 96 degree 80% humidity days. Call me and lets talk some boat stuff I need a fix. 337-540-8228 82 degrees this Saturday!!! I'm envisioning a trip to Pier 13 in my future!!!:D Tom |
I also lose speed from Lake Charles to your area. Maybe the fresh water?? Maybe Lake Charles has so much goo from the plants and refineries that it puts some sort of speed coating on the hull. :cool-smiley-011:
