aligning eng and trans

whats the right way to align the eng/coupler ant the trans input shaft,i locked it in gear and the thing still just spins?

MILD THUNDER 07-07-2008 07:47 PM

I believe it will spin freely unless the engine is running and there is pump pressure.

I see you are from chicago. Where do you boat?

are you talkin as far as the outdrive end goes? like with the alignment tool for the bravo's/alphas? For a TRS setup its actually the same tool....only difference is theres an extra plate that goes on the end and will sit flush to the bell housing of the transom assembly. Look here: http://www.mercstuff.com/alignmenttool.htm

no,im talking about the flywheel/coupler to the front of tranny, 2 and 3 went together like butter,no problem

MILD THUNDER 07-09-2008 06:40 AM

If you mounted the trannie and you can spin the output shaft, thats ok. Once the trans is bolted to the bellhousing, she's in.

If you are tryin to get the tranny mounted, but the splines wont engage in to the coupler, you may have to rotate the trans counter clockwise or clockwise till it slides in flush.
