warlock is probably right the seals in the end caps get locked around the ram and wont let the drive down. Merc pumps have more pressure going up than down so they get stuck in the up position. You can try to put a seal kit in your end cap but in our area we usually wind up replacing the cap as well.

Have someone kick the drive downwards when you hit the buttom! If the trim motor runs ofcourse! If the drive has been sitting in the far most up position for some time it sometimes gets stuck and needs some help to break loose.

TOO VIOLENT?? - not too familiar with hydraulic pressures HUH

having same problem with mine i just stand on the drive, i am 260lbs and have the woman hit the button, she is none to impressed with my hillbilly tactics though, now i did not have this problem till it foamed and puked a bunch of the fluid out the resevoir, have refilled it, but still having the problem, i was going to buy a new trim pump, but if there is a cheaper remedy i am up for it.

searaycer's right, just stand on the drive. If that doesn't work, jump on the drive. Good golly, Griff I sure hope a drive could take the dynamic force of a 200+ person jumping on it a bit; seems almost minor compared to hydrodynamic forces on a drive at 75 MPH in and out of waves. Jeff

Had this issue earlier this year. was trying all sorts of things to fix it, ended up having a buddy stand on the drive and bounce on it a little, while i held the button down, and problem fixed. Been fine all summer since!

My Trims motors stick everytime I take mine off the trailer. We take turns standing on the drives and pushing the buttons. lol. As soon as we are under way the boat puts enough pressure on them to move them down but it would be nice to not have to do "outdrive warm up stretches" eveytime i put it in the water.

I am going to try and not trailer them completely next time and see if that makes a difference. Like trim them up then only go about 3/4 traliered maybe they wont get stuck up.
