GPS Installation cost

After purchasing a GPS I made a couple inquiries to have someone install it. To my surprise they guys want almost as much to install it as I paid for the unit. Its a Garmin 3205 that I want to mount on the holder rather than flush. Are there any real pitfalls to getting the units hooked up other than deciphering which wires go to what? Should I cut any excess wire from the antenna?

Thanks.

Pretty cut & dry , we did'nt cut the ant or have to drill & mount it worked great behind the dash ..the hardest part will be reading the manual and the satelite finding u :cool-smiley-011:good luck

there are wires for the antenna (#17) and the serial connector as well and hiding all the wires and making sure the screws hold...... looks like I'll give a try... we'll see.

piece of cake. If you lived closer I'd do it for you.

I appreciate the offer....... I keep looking at the specs/install sheets........ I guess an old bean counter can hook a few wires and place a few screws without burning the whold boat up.

Do you have sugestions for the type of mounting screws to use. I am planning on doing the top dash mount.

Cant see your dash from here but do Stainless and use silicone , get some shrink for the fittings, a bag of tie wraps ,and a heat gun .:ernaehrung004:
