741 Cam

Is the 741 Cam installed in my 2000 500 EFI or is it only installed in the 525's. If they are different could someone post spec. for both cam's.
Thanks Steve

Griff 09-08-2008 04:00 PM

The 525efi cam is 741 ground a 114 lob sep.

The 500efi cam is just slightly smaller than a 731, I think its #169621

czy40p 09-09-2008 11:04 AM

Pretty sure this is the 454 cam link.

What is the 500HP carbed cam # ?
I have a set of carbed 500hp's in the boat right now and a set of 454 420hp sitting in the garage.

I am thinking about a 454 build up and just store the 500's for stock later.

I know a 500 build would be better, but any ideas about a 454 build?

The 741 cam is to much cam for a 454 IMHO unless using blowers. The Crane 168731 is the way to go.

The HP 500 carbed use the Crane 169611. Slighty smaller than the 169621. You can get the cam card on Cranes website.

Thanks that helps gettinbye
My mind is all over the place with options.

I wonder what the difference would be in the HP 500's with Hardin marine header lowers and the 169621 cams?

Would the ignition have to be changed as well?

Probably the best cam to go with to upgrade your 500HP's is the 525efi cam. Its a Crane 741 ground on a 114 lob sep. The hardin lowers won't add anything. I gained zero when I switched from Gils to CMI's on my 525sc.

The stock ignitions will be fine.

Ghostrider 09-15-2008 06:11 AM

Why is the 741 too much for a 454? I plan to run one but I may have a 731 on standby as well...

I need power (mental problem), so I figured if the Gen VI can take the 741 why not?

Any thoughts? I'm a little worried now! (I may also have a brand new 741 for sale soon too!)

formula377 09-15-2008 10:54 AM

Zero? Really Griff?
The Gil's have those siameased center ports. The CMI's gotta make a difference.

Griff 09-15-2008 01:42 PM

I was supercharged and SC'd engines really don't need as good of exhaust to still make the same power. They compensate with boost. I replaced the Gil's due to cracking and went with CMI Unitops. They are an 1 piece E Top. I didn't gain anything.

You will have spin the engine at about 5800rpms with a 741 to reach peak HP in with 454. A 731 will make more power and torque at lower rpms, probably around 5400 and have a better torque curve.

formula377 09-15-2008 04:50 PM

I want a dyno and just make pulls all day long!

fandango 09-16-2008 11:42 AM

I've got (2) 731's with low, low hours I will sell for cheap.

Ed

fandango
What do you have for them? Just cams or other valve train for sale too?

NEVERSATISFIED 09-23-2008 02:35 PM

Griff
Will the 741 work in my 2000 500EFI's and what if any improvements will I see? I plan on doing head work and reprograming the ECM but wandered about switching the cam
Thanks Steve

GS42fun 09-23-2008 04:56 PM

Formula377,

I have two sets of Comp Cams roller lifters I am willing to sell They have low hours and are in great shape. They are for Mark IV and Gen V engines.

It should work fine. You may want to go with the 525EFI cam instead. Its a 741 ground a 114 lob sep instead of the standard 112. It'll idle a little smoother and probably have a little flatter torque curve.

Just make sure that whoever does the ECM knows exactly what you have. It may be easier to use a known combo by one of the reputable builders.

fandango, email me a price and some contact info [email protected]

Formula 377,
If you are still interrested I have two set of Comp Cams Hyd roller lifters, and one set of Isky Hyd roller lifters. They are for a Mark IV or Gen V BBC. I also have two sets of Comp Cam push rods. They all have low hours and are in great shape.
If you are interested let me know and I will come up with some good prices.

I went out to the garage and looked at what I have, and the part numbers. I have two sets of Comp hyd roller lifters, part number 854-16.
Push rods I have two sets. They are 3/8" chrome moly -heat treated. The intake's are part number 7928. length is 8.950.
The exhaust's are part number 7984. Length is 8.950.

They came out out of a 510 CI Mark IV with Merlin heads.
If these are what you need let me know, and we can talk.

I would like to sell both sets, but I will separate.

You should have Gen VI engines, so you need cams and lifters for them. The others Gen IV & V stuff won't work.

formula377 10-21-2008 11:23 AM

The new boat has the GenVI motors. I still have a pair of 420HP 454's sitting in the garage.

Don't count me out Griff! You never know what I will be coming up with next!

COOL CROSSBOW 01-05-2009 11:28 AM
