Silent Choice?

Hey Guys, I am thinking of installing silent choice on my 96 Baja, 454 MPI, currently has "Thru Hull" exhaust, is this something I should "farm out"?, or is it easy to do, would appreciate ANY input you could provide, THANKS!!

Is that like sending it back to the minor league??

If there is no Y pipe in the boat you will have to pull the engine out. It would be a lot easyer to add mufflers and cheaper. :ernaehrung004:

Hey Mike,
If i were you i would just forget about the s/choice. I have
the same option on my 94 Baja 272 w/454 EFI and i finally
wired both of the solenoids open because they only worked
half of the time. They are not worth the expense and trouble
to maintain...besides..i love the sound of an unobstructed
exhaust system and its much more safe as other boaters &
jetski's can hear your approach and know you are near!!!

Ditto.

You could also just add some Drew Marine Shotgun mufflers and be done in an hour.

Would like to add that if you choose to go this route, make certian that your elbows are for silent choice?????
There are ones that do not accomadate silent choice.
I would put on a set of mufflers like everyone is saying.
I know the next time my engines get plucked the y-pipes are getting lost! :)

I Love the sound of open exhaust as well, but, sadly SOME of my neighbours, and the local "water cops" in certain area's DON'T!, HA HA

I had NO idea that you had to pull the motor, which is more work than I am interested in doing, I have heard people speak of "switchable" mufflers, which I assume are similiar to silent choice?, sound like they would be alot easier than Silent Choice, I am pretty sure that my boat has no "Y pipe", but, I am not positive, how can you tell?.

Sorry for the "moronic" questions, but, I am fairly new to this, I come from an automotive background [drag racing] and I am just "getting my feet wet" [no pun intended].

Thanks in advance for ALL the help, and input!

Michael

The Y pipe is the Black U shaped pipe in the pics above. each end connects to one of the diverters and the center sends the exhaust through the prop. BTW, I highly doubt you are over the decible limit with your current straight out tips. The Shotgun Tips will definately reduce noise levels at idle speeds and they can be adjusted. Also, no loss of power with them.

chck the state laws. Switchable exhaust is not legal in some states. also, if you are running 425 H.P. or greater, these systems should not be used because of a condition known as reversion will cause water to be sucked up the exhaust and deposited on top of the pistons. This will blow holes in your pistons and cost you lots of money. Put on mufflers. Less expensive than switchable exhaust and legal with only slight loss of horsepower.
