sea strainer?
 

Hey Guys, I boat in fresh water and my Baja has a closed loop cooled 454 MPI in it, I am curious if a sea strainer will make any difference if using a closed look system in a fresh water environment?, the area I boat in is generally quite deep and "Clean", but, the docking area's are somewhat silty. Any input would be greatly appreciated!,

Strainers will stop the big sh!t from getting to the pump and tearing it up. I found in my area that weeds are a big problem and the strainers work great. :ernaehrung004:

There is no doubt that a sea strainer can and will help you in bad water conditions, consider it cheap insurance. I have noticed there are several different sizes, in a boat like mine with a single 454 and 24 ft long I assume as "small" one would be ideal?, I have also seen a few styles with a "3rd" input, that I assume is used for a "wash through" for the strainer, does anyone make a nice billet hose attachment for the "flush hose" or even a kit?, thanks again!

Yes you can buy a fitting to hook up a garden hose to run the engine on or flush out the system. Just not sure who makes them. I'm sure one of the guy's on here can fix you up with all the parts you will need. Just remeber to put the strainer as low as you can in the boat with a valve on the in side and one on the flush out hose.

And as you can see do not forget to order the stainless fittings because the brass one's look like SH!T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ernaehrung004:

Hey Jeff,,,,put your fitting for the flush on the lower inlet,,,that way u flush out the strainer and it cleans itself.

If u got it on top and its glooged up a little u may not get any water to the pump on the hose. ?!:ernaehrung004:
