Neon?

Hey Guys!

I am thinking of adding some neon lighting to my 24ft Outlaw, at first I had a hard time getting passed the whole "Fast and Furious" stigma, but, once I seen a few pics of guys who had done it [tastefully!] I thought it looked killer!. I can get a good kit from a fellow locally for $30 comes with one 4ft tube and two 3 ft tubes, plus the wiring transformer, etc.

Anything I should look out for?, or make sure I do?, or dont do?, I have seen a few boats with it mounted under the swim platform, and thought it looked pretty neat, but, dont like the idea of drilling any [more] holes in the transom.

Feel Free to add comments or suggestions..............but, if someone recommends a put 15" diameter tailpipes on my stock motor I will be very worried! ha ha!

We have had a local custom shop do it for us in the past. We have been very happy with results, put tubes in the side compartments, under seats, in cabin, and under swim platform. The cops can ***** about the one under the platform, so I don't advise running with them on, or at least one under platform.:ernaehrung004:

I found some neon, 2 ft lengths and one 3ft length, its purple which matches the interior carpet in my outlaw, I am thinking of mounting the single 3 ft length across the back of the backseat [to light up engine area] and putting the 2 four foot sections up in the gunnels to shine down in the cockpit area, I will probably use a seperate switch, or hood switch, that way the neon wont be on in the engine area when the hatch is closed, and will use a relay near the transformer instead of the cheesy inline fuse that came with the kit, but, other than that is there anything I should look for?, or watch out for?, Thanks!!

street glow gold series is the best underbody kit you can get, its the kit with the transformer if it is street glow brand. very bright!

I got a street glow kit on my old 240 Sport.. I did the green neon cause my boat has teal colors on it. Really makes the interior look cool at night. Got one tube running under the dash, one on each side inside of the gunnels and one in the engine compartment.. The engine one glows out the air vents and looks cool if i crack the hatch just a few inches.. Never had any problems with them breaking or coming free. Just take your time and make sure you stick them where the bulbs are not directly visible.. Ive seen that and it looks tacky

Great!, appreciate the advice, I chose purple, since I have a 95 with the "Miami Vice on Acid" graphics! ha ha. I was curious how you attached the tubes to the gunnels?, I was thinking of using cushioned adel clamps, but, not sure if there is anything up there to mount them to?, once again, let me know how you attached yours.

I have 3 tubes, 2 long [42"] that I was gonna use in the gunnels and 1 short [36"] that I was gonna use in the hatch area, figured I would mount the short one against the back of the back seat, blowing back towards the motor, its either that or mount it at the back, on the upper transom and have the light blow forward towards the motor, where did you mount yours?, Thanks again

Michael

PS: Pics are always welcome!

Cushion clams work well, some times you can wire tie them to the wire harness... What ever ones you get make sure that they are protected by a plastic tube around them other wise you can have a nasty mess in the bilge.

I just had some small LED neon put in. It really looks good, Had the tubes in the Baja before and these are 100% better IMO. About 2" dim and they really light up. Like 4 or 5 small LEDs in each fixture.
