Vinyl Upholstery

I have Baja Style boat and the Upholstery on the sunpad is coming unstiched in a couple spots where 2 different colors come together. The color thing is not important but is there anyway to stitch these back together without removing the whole vinyl from the sunpad. The stitch holes are not riped, just the thread has broken. Anyone know what type of thread is used. Anything has to look better than the pieces coming apart.

If it started in one or two spots, it will continue to spread to other locations. To do it right, the vinyl needs to come off.

The problem will only get worse. Sometimes the vinyl can be saved and restiched, but that depends on what shape it is in. The cleaner you are using can have a lot to do with your problem. We can fix those problems. Where are you located?

Vinyl

Thanks Deere but I am in Florida. I dont think the shops around here want to fool with small jobs. The Viny itself is in good shape. I went to a shop the other day to ask about stretching and re-stitching and they told me they might be able to get to it in 6 wks. I am in the medical profession. I hope they come in my office some day.. Maybe I can tell them.. "I think I might be able to get to that in 6 wks"... LOL...

There is a way of stiching inviseble, check this one out:

Maybe you have an old lady in the family that could help you out, I know the technique is used when a sofa or soething else that is tough to recarpet cracks up

Good Luck

Hi Chris,
Sorry about the stitching coming undone. Usually, once the stitching starts, it will come apart in other areas. Oh Deere is right - The cleaners used will cause it to deteriorate, sun exposure causes deterioration also.
Often, even thought the vinyl seems ok, once it is taken off, it is too brittle to re-use. Even if it is ok to re-use, the time/cost to do that is cost prohibitive - You might as well get a whole new sunpad. Often the foam is ok to reuse. We only use Tenara thread, which is the best there is for Marine use.
If you want to email me a picture at [email protected], I'll take a look. Feel free to call also, 941-752-6271. We're in the Bradenton/Sarasota area.
Jim
