500/525 conversion

I have a 95 Outlaw with a 454EFI set up, closed loop, Bravo 1, the motor has around 300 hours on it, but, I had the entire top end done this year [bottom end was still rock solid].

IF [and its a big IF] money holds up over the winter, I would LOVE to swap to a 500 or 525EFI set up, anyone done this on a boat similiar to mine? I really love the fuel injection and dont want to go back to a carbed motor [no offense intended to "carb" guys].

Is this a "bolt in" deal? or are is it gonna be a giant pain in butt to do? will my stock Bravo 1 drive live behind either one of these motors? what about compatability issues with the computer, gauges, throttles, etc?

I am getting 64MPH on a good day, by myself with 1/2 tank of gas and alot of gear, using a 3 blade prop in flat water, what kind of gains would I see by going to the 500/525 set up?, I would love to see at least 70MPH or is that wishfull thinking?

My current motor is stock except for Stainless Marine manifolds and a K&N air filter.

Thanks for the help guys, ALL input welcomed!

24 Outlaw? I have a similar hull (240 Sport), I'm thinking with about 500 horse you might be able to just barely hit 70, maybe low 70's. I figure it would take about 600 hp to run mid 70's from what I've read of other peoples experience with the same hull.

Its a 95 Baja Outlaw SST, could be 25ft, but, I have never actually measured it, I have a buddy who is trying to steer me towards a 496 Mag HO with a whipple, but, dont know if I want to run a blower motor, If I could squeeze low 70's with a stock 525 I would be content................For Now!, LOL

Find you a used 496 and send it to Raylar. I bet for the price of a used 496 plus the Raylars Kit it would cost less than a 525 and you would be close to or above 600hp. Also you will have better reliability with the Raylar than with a whipple or procharged 496.

I have heard NOTHING but good things about Raylar, I would like to keep the motor low maintainance, reliable and continue to run it on the pump gas "swill" they sell at most marina's

This is WAY outta my league, but, was curious, has anyone ever run a single BIG HP motor in a smaller [25ft or less] boat?, what I am wondering is, what would a newer Merc 700 or even a 1075 with a single #6 drive work like in a single engine application?

Not something I would attempt, but, just curious, THANKS!!

I know Wildcard has a 25 OL with a stock Merc 600SCI, extension box, shortie and is running about 85MPG GPS. HAve not seen him on here in awhile but he is very informative and helpful.

How do you not know if it is a 24 or a 25? They are similar, but there are some hull differences that come into play.

If its a 1995, it's a 24 Outlaw, the 25 didn't come out until 98 or 99.
