Sea Strainer Mounting Location

I bought to new KPM strainers and am installing them this weekend. Do they have to mounted below raw water pump or can they be mounted anywhere? Thanks in advance.

A seastrainer should be mounted as deep as posible ,,,,but has nothing to do with the raw water pump .
Mine is actually higher (not good ) but works.
The reason why mine is higher i dont have room.

The deeper the better like DD said. I don't like putting them below the water line personally.
