converting to closed loop cooling

I have open loop raw water cooling engines now. Are there any affordable kits to convert to closed loop cooling? I have to rebuild my engines and now would be the time. Are the benefits worth the money?

Here's some. http://www.cpperformance.com/SearchR...CategoryID=358
They are kinda pricey add weight to the boat but good for your motor. I'd have them in salt but not a lake. New merc motors have them to keep the computer system in touch with the engine.

If you boat in salt water they are worth whatever they cost.
Judging by your screen name that may not be the case.

Ilmor uses Sen-Dure components. http://www.sen-dure.com/

I got 2 kits from the internet but worked with seakamp to design the exchangers. Mine works well with 600 hp motors.

They seem to cut out at 2001. Mine's a 2006 5.0.

Just how much work does that eliminate from the wash down cycle? Does the drive just have to be hosed off and not flushed?

You can still flush the drives with muffs to get the exhaust cleaned out.

Are they necessary if not in salt water?

My boats only in the Ohio. Would it be beneficial to convert it to close loop cooling?

I wouldn't convert in fresh water.

Brad Zastrow 09-13-2009 09:38 PM

I would not spend the money for a closed cooling system in fresh water.
