That's my project for this winter too! I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to be doing or how just yet, but I'll figure something out! I'll check back from time to time and see what you're up to.
|
I have a few ideas rolling through my head of what i'm going to try an do but I'd like to get a few peoples ideas and advice before I jump into this.
|
I'm facing the same project but it will be far simpler than what you're looking at.
I've sketched out a few designs but they are all based on a TIG welded, open aluminum tube base with cushions that are easily removable. They also all have a step on the wraparound sides for easier entry and a step in the middle of the back seat to step up to the engine compartment (step will have a pair of cupholders). What are you planning for the structure of the seat? |
Not 100% I really dont want to use ply wood I want to use somethng lightweight and durable.my dad has a 4x12 sheet of this fiberglass type material that is extremely light weight that they use for air plane flooring(he got it from delta before he retired)
|
Honeycomb material? Boeing surplus store in Seattle used to sell this great FG honeycomb, super strong and light, in 4x8 and 4x12 sheets. Neat stuff.
|
yes thats it. it honeycomb alum with fiberglass on both sides. VERY durable and my dad said they used it for the floor in the airplanes. I'm getting a 4x12 sheet but ithink i'm going to built my new engine hatch with it. any ideas on what to use to build the frame for my bench seat out of??(id like to use this material but I wont have enough)
|
anyone else have some ideas I'll be done with installing my new fuel tanks and fiberglassing my floor back in so this is my next step. thanks

Has anyone ever used stand up or sit down front bolsters for the rear seats. I found a great deal on some new ones that I am going to purchase for the front however wondered if this might not be a bad idea to install 2 in the rear with a small custom bench between the two. Just not sure how this would look. I even considered installing three for across the back however I thought there might be a lot of wasted space with the sides being butted up against each other.
Thanks and sorry for getting off the subject a bit. John |
no thats ok. Me and the wife were out in the shop last night looking I think I'm going to built 4 bucket seats like the 2 front and put them across the back 3 would leave a gap and the wife says no to 3 that she wants 4.But the issue with 4 is that I'n only working with 81" and 4 of these seat are 88" so I'll have to modify them a little. bolsters would be pretty neat... never seen any in a boat done like that.

Thanks and sorry for getting off the subject a bit. John Is this what you were thinking of? It would be quite easy to build a small bench between the two. Doug |

I can rest a bit knowing that is practicle and looks great. You even have my colors. I hate it when I go to bed thinking about this stuff. My mind goes into hyper drive. I think I got a little ABC going on also. (ADD)... LOL. This really looks nice and I would like to have them rear passengers be secure and have that similar ride to that of the front. Most often I run with a total of 2 to 4 people anyway. The little bench can accomodate the not so offen extras. Thanks. John |
I like the bench in the middle as well. Everyone to trying to talk me into builting only 3 seats in the back but its usually me the wife and another couple, that leaves one seat left and all we have is couples that would go out so that would force someone out if i only had seating for 5 instead of 6.anyone have any pics of 4 seats in the rear??

I would be happy to do a back seat like you are looking for. I can work with you to do the design then build the seat and upholster it. Also front seats and sunpad to match if you want. Give me a call if you would like to create something. You can check out the website also to see some of our work.

been talking to a few people and they say go with a bench and have the 4 seats separated like the ones in the RPM boat.( 2nd pic I posted)and make them look like 4 separate seats with foam instead of 4 individual seats. what do yall think. anyone have anymore pics??
|
I really don't think you got the room back there for what you want to build.
|
I think I do. I've had 4 adults sitting back there before.Thats why I'd like to keep it a bench and have the foam molded like the rpm pic but the seats will be smaller. or I could just do 3 like the rpm and I can still squeeze 4 adults if i need to. hmmm... I need to come up with an idea soon.

Hi Justin - How is your project coming along? We've built many custom aft seats. Feel free to contact me to discuss.

I think I'm going to keep my backseat and add the headrest to the engine hatch like the redline pic. I'm only going to have 2 headrests' one on the far right and one on the far left and leave the middle open becasue I will be installing a hatch scoop so I dont want the 2 headrest in the middle to be in the way of the air flow. plus that way I wont have to "squeeze" 4 seperate looking seats in there.
