Under Hatch Mirrors
Does anybody know where you can get mirrors for under the hatches? and can you get colors? Any ideas?
|
mirrors
I went to a plexiglass shop and ordered mirrored plexiglass and it worked fine. They also have a wide range of colors.
|
I can get it for you from my supplier, I'm close to you give me a call 540-786-8111, Rob
|
I got mine from a place up here in Cincinnati called GE polymer. A 4x8 sheet was a little under a hundred bucks. Then i cut it close to size with a table saw and fine tooth blade. Router or jig saw works good too.

not saying you can't however be careful with the jig saw. i've used one when in a pinch however you can screw up quickly that way. if you do make sure the film is still on it and double up with some extra masking take along the cut areas and also tape off the bottom of the saw surface to prevent scratches. use a real fine blade. a plexi cutter is only a couple of bucks at the hardware store and works well. belt sander for finishing.

http://www.curbellplastics.com/sign-pop/mirror.html I used 1/4-20 Stainless button head allen bolts to attach my pieces. |
The 3m 5200 or otherwise the urethane inshields are installed with would work fine. Most now a days require a primer you apply where the urethane is applied. You just use a swab type deal that comes witht he primer. Be sure and use the primer for good adheasion. Personally I would mark the area well where the mirror is to be placed and outline it lightly. About every 8 to 12" or so squirt out about a ping pong ball size of urethane. Press lightly to some what firm evenly throughout. Tap the edges and let sit over night. If your hatch cover is off you need not tape.

It does suck that they dont have prices on their website but I purchase supplies from them for my business so I usually just drop them an email or phone call. I dont believe they are open on weekends so you should here something Monday. ...Jim |
It's also available in 1/8".
|
I attached mine with 3m emblem adhesive 2 sided tape. It has held for 12 years of rough water. Prepping the surface with 3m adhesion promoter will make it even stronger.

those sheets are not meant to have screws thru them, it will cause them to crack and break...try using trim around the edges and 2 sided tape in the middle...Rob

When i bought mine at a local plastic supply place ther had "special" drill bit's that they recommended to use to drill thru the plastic and nit damage it. I drilled it with no problems at all... The key is to drill very slow with very light pressure with a piece of wood behind it to keep from cracking it.:coolcowboy: |

they also have it in mirror colors as well Look under specialty vinyl |
I used polished stainless on mine... no fear of breaking and having the mirror all over the place. I got it from a guy in wisconsin and he does a fantastic job.. Actually looks better than a mirror and its alot more durable. Let me know if you want his name and number..
