496 ho air pump question
 

I ran my boat the other day and when i was done i went ahead and pumped both motors, just incase we get another cold snap. When i went to pump the left motor, it wouldnt build pressure. Everytime i would pump i could hear the air comming out on the right side of the motor. it would never build up enough pressure to release the water, so i just pulled a couple blue plugs.

Would one of the release valves have something stuck in it or does it need replaced? I didnt have any water leaking out of it while running.

Try following the little green and white plastic hoses on that side of the motor and see if one is loose. Those fittings that the lines press into are pretty cheesy, you just push down on the round plastic fitting to release or insert the hose. We had a bad fitting on my friend's seawater pump where the white hose wouldn't seat correctly and it did exactly what you're describing...you could pump, but no pressure, and you could hear and feel the air coming out around the fitting.

I am going to step it up a notch. Our boat demonstrated the same symptoms from day one. In addition, I kept finding water in the bilge. While underway, I partially raised the engine cover and "thar she blows". At 3000 rpm, I could see water spewing from the rear cover assembly of the seawater pump. The water was leaking through a tiny crack in the body of the rear cover. It did not spew at idle rpms-not developing enough water pressure at that point. Mr. FormulaGuard took very good care of us!!

Hey Busta: Good to see you to! I have been reading the Bahamas2010 thread. Unfortunately, for me, the trip is scheduled during a busy work weekend for me. I am exploring the possibility of dodging duty. I will let you folks know if things turn out positive. We attended a formula gathering in the Bahamas summer of 2008. We really want to make that trip again.

Well i found the problem, just not sure how to fix it.

On the back right side of the motor, in between the valve cover and where the exhaust pipe "y's" off to the transom assembly there is a small 1/4 black hose that is not connected to anything. if i put my thumb over it and pump it builds pressure just fine.

My problem is i have no clue where this black hose is supposed to be connected to? Any ideas?

Thats all i thought there was to the air system to capt. The hose that i found isnt a green or white plastic tube. It is more like a standard automotive vaccum line located on the back side of the motor??
