Gimbal Bearing
Just changed the gimbal bearing. There was no grease hole to line up. There was an indicator mark but no hole??? Did they switch to a sealed bearing? I haven't had a chance to ask the dealer where I got it.

the ribbed sleeve around the housing slides...rotate it until you see the hole...

I recall reading that the new ones aren't greaseable.

I second that. I was told they are sealed. No grease.

I just installed one with no grease hole and even came with a small plug. The plug is put in place of the grease fitting..so anyway the new gimbal is a sealed unit.

Fixx

I'm thinking it's a good thing. sealed bearing.....where's the grease going to go then? Nowhere. it's staying put. :)
I've had vehicles with over 100k miles on the sealed wheel bearings and never an issue. I just replaced both of the greaseable bearings in my new NOS transom assemblies with sealed bearings. Never been installed, but a few yrs old sitting on the shelf. I'm ok with that. |
yes, they call them lubed for life.....just don't say how long that life is....
