impeller blades missing
 

I changed my sea pump impellers last night and both engines were missing blades. One had the broken off piece stuck in the pump housing but the other is no where to be found. Could it have made it through or is it likely to be stuck in the cooling system somewhere. My friend told me that it probably got chewed up by the water pump but I don't know. If any body can put my mind at ease I would appreciate it. Or if not than can you suggest where to start looking for it. Thanks

check your oil cooler first.. mark

yep the oil & p/s coolers, collects there as it's not open thru

Plugged up an oil cooler in my mistress. Blocks water flow and heats up the oil. Took out a perfectly good 468 after 50 hours. Randy

That blade (s) is in there somewhere. If you pull one out without blades you should set it on the bench and keep looking through the cooling system until you can put the impeller "puzzle" back together.

Pull the Pressure side hose off the seapump ....tie an old stocking (footie works) over the open end of the pressure hose. Remove the hose (#8 in the pic) from the Thermostat housing and place a water hose into the hose and back flush the system ....check footie .....If you dont get anything on initial Flush ... Backfill with water then quicky place an air hose in the Thermostat Hose and give it quick blast of air ......m


Notice I said you can use an old Footie on a Baja ....

on a Formula you need to use a new one .......:drink:

Follow your cooling water hose path or follow the oil lines from the oil filter. They will both lead you to the oil cooler.

I replace my impeller every spring, but this is really good info to file for later. One question...What is the best/easiest way to know which side is the pressure side hose off the seapump?
