Stereo AMP Wiring?
 

I relocated my batteries in my boat and now need to re-wire my amps. Can I run 0/2 AWG from the hot side of my perko to the amp or do I need to run it straight from the battery the perko lead runs straight to the positive terminal anyway? I have 2/1000 Watt amps and 1/1800 watt amp for the bass.

Also, when running the ground from the amps, can I run it to the engine block or does it need to be sent directly to the negative terminal?

I would run it from the battery with at least a 100 amp fuse within 6" of the terminal. Run your ground directly to your neg on the battery. Make sure you run good quallity, large guage wire for your ground. That will make the difference in the sound quality.

Given that the ground on the battery is only as good as the connection to the block, what's the difference between grounding at the battery or the block?

I'd add - whenever possible try to keep as much distance and/or insulation between the RCA cables and the positive cable.

you run the rcas too close to the positive and you get all kinds of odd feedback. locate the amps close to the batteries if you can then you save some cash on heavy gauge wire. then the cheap remote wire and rcas are the only thing that you need to buy in a long section. you could also make your own little switch for the remote circuit if you just want to shut down the amps (if they are only for subs).

-1 THe ground at the block is ONLY due to the ground created from the battery.... if you had a amp wired to the pos of the batt, and the neg to the block, without the neg of the batt to the block you would have nothing.... So only makes sense to go to the source rather than tapping from somewhere else- just my .o2
