Merc 600SCI
I have twin Merc 600 SCI's in my boat and I have developed a leak in one of the superchargers. It looks like I have a small leak from the "snout" of the supercharger where the shaft for the pulley enters.
Is this a major repair or just bearings and seals to stop the leak. The level on the oil bath window never dropped much but there was enough oil to get on the pulley and spray on the engine hatch. Thanks, Mark |
Mark,
I think Whipple has a rebuild program. Don't let this condition go to long. We damaged a 700 supercharger. Like yours, it had a small leak that got bad quick. The blue paint on the nose of the supercharger blackened from overheating during the Lake Cumberland poker run. It appears that most of the oil ended up in the bilge. Prior to the leaking, I noticed an unusual jumping of the belt tensioner. I am not sure if this jumping or vibration is a failure symptom or not. My son located a used supercharger on OSO that we purchased. We ran this weekend and the replacement supercharger is so much smoother that the other engines, I am concerned enough that I am going to have the others rebuilt. Mercury Racing only offers the supercharger as a complete assembly, you cannot purchase any repair or rebuild parts. I hope this helps, Andy |
I would suggest that you send your supercharger(s) to Dustin at Whipple to get rebuilt.
Chris P.S. Premierpower -- I am glad that the replacement supercharger worked well for you...and you were able to have a fun weekend. |
Chris,
