Do it your self mechanical indicators
Has anyone made their own mechanical indicators? I am interested in doing a pop up kind but could use some advise from anyone who has some suggestions or done it already.

That is why I am thinking about doing something my self. Trust me if I figure it out I will share my knowledge.

Make 3 and il make it worth your troubles. I want the pop up kind also and there really pricey for the twin drive and twin tab. Reason being I would like to use the spot on the dash where the factory indicators are for a gps unit. Order one for mock up then return it
|
I am doing mine for a twin drive and tab as well. In my Formula there is a spot that is stepped right above the shifters. That is where I am thinking of putting this.

All they are, are cables with fancy ends on them with graduations. Just need the right machines/knowledge to make it look a little better than the cable ends fastened to your Stanley tape measure going in and out. Hardest part would be the cable holder.

I have to buy the actuators. I am not that good. But the indicator heads are very pricey for the pop up kind.

I made a single trim indicator attached to drive using a throttle cable with a pointer attached to end that runs over a graduated aluminum plate screwed to my dash with cable hidden behind dash
I mainly wanted it for optimizing my wide open setting to avoid over trimming or under trimming when racing. Just set it on the mark and mash the throttle. No guessing! |
I made mine... not too tuff if you already have the cable set up.
I'll try to get some pics up on my website or email me. There up now at www.30velocity.com/projects.htm |
I looked at the other site. Pretty nice set up. That is basically what I was thinking about doing.
