Stainless Handrails

Do builders use 316 ss for railings or something else? If I use 1" OD tubing to do an aft deck rail what should the tubing wall thickness be? Has anyone here ever done railing? I think it should be seamless polished tubing. I have a friend that builds race cars who offered to do the bending with his hydraulic benders. Anything to avoid or look out for?
Thanks, Dave
