Save your money and do the whole thing at once. I just got sone building a motor that started out as a simple intake and mild cam job. Turned into a decked block, flat top pistons, balanced crank, hot cam, roller rockers, intake, carb, fuel pump etc etc. If you need some advice pm me and we can discuss the dos and donts

CTBS,
If it's the original motor with no refresh and alot of hours you should at least do a leak down test. That being said one of the best bang for the buck upgrades I did years ago was an Edlebrock Performer Intake and Crane flat tappet cam. I rejetted the Rochester carb did nothing else and gained 5 mph.
