Help on cooling question!!
 

I've just had my motor rebuilt and I'm reconnecting all the lines and electrical. My engine builder recommended that I run a -10 line from the rear coolant port on the intake to the front port to help even out the cooling. I have a GEN V block and was wondering if anyone else has tried this and what were the results? If not, can anyone tell me how the water flows on a GEN V so I can make an educated decision. I'm concerned that the water runs from the front of the motor to the back then forward through the heads. If that's the case then the two center cylinders may run hotter with the outboard cooling lines. I have a IR temp gun and will keep an eye on it. It would just be nice to know if someone else has tried it and was successful.

When I installed my crossover I ran a 3/8 line from the front of the intake to the rear. It keeps the water temp. right at 150 with a 140 thermostat. I also have a merlin block. All you want to do is get rid of the steam pockets

Is this necessary for a stock 7.4 Gen V?

Did you check the cylinder head temp with a temp gun to see if you had any hot spots?

Yes. I checked the front and the rear of the heads and along the intake manifold rails. Every thing checked within about 6*.
